How to prepare coconut halva

 Coconut Halwa Recipe

Coconut Halwa is one of the most simple and sweet middle east desserts. Halwa, or Halva, originated from Iran and spread throughout the middle east. Halwa is made with different recipes in each middle eastern country; some may use semolina, flour, or cornstarch and flavored with various ingredients. Today we want to make Halwa from flour and coconut.

Ingredients

  • Flour 1 cup
  • Liquid oil ½ cup
  • Dry milk 1 cup
  • Butter 150 g
  • Coconut powder 1 cup
  • Halwa syrup
  • Rose water 3 cup
  • Sugar 2 cup
  • Cardamom powder 1 tsp (or to taste)
  • Brewed saffron 1 tbsp (or to taste)

Coconut Halwa Recipe

  1. Add sugar and rose water to a suitable pot and put it on medium heat until the sugar particles dissolve entirely.
  2. As the sugar is dissolved, add the brewed saffron to the pot along with the cardamom powder, bring it to a simmer and then immediately remove the pot from the heat to cool down the syrup.
  3. For preparing the Halwa, combine the flour and dry milk and sift them together in a pan.
  4. Lightly toast your flour by moving it around in the un-oiled pan. Then add butter and oil to the pan.
  5. The second you hear the sizzle of the oil in the pot, start to stir vigorously and fold your flour into the oil. Keep going until everything is integrated and you’ve stirred out most of the clumps.
  6. Once you see (and sometimes smell) the flour starting to brown, add coconut powder and sauté for about five minutes.
  7. Add the syrup to the pan and stir regularly until everything is integrated.
  8. Stir the Halwa until it can be easily separated from the pan walls. Now remove it from the heat, spread it into your serving dish, garnish it with pistachio and almond, and then set it aside and let it cool. Serve this healthy and sweet coconut Halwa with tea or plain. Enjoy!
